Small reminders

My body reminds me
of my stories.
A southern cross of moles
bears silent witness
across my forearm.
A pithy scar
interrupts my elbow’s smoothness
to trumpet childish stupidity.
Then there’s the pock mark
on my forehead
for ignoring the warnings
not to scratch.
There are bruises
from unknown sources.
I am not unscathed
only human
it is the small things
that remind me.
