the poplars have half turned

 

the poplars have half turned
from lime to russet

green humps of baled hay
populate bare paddocks

you stand stooped over your walker
rest on its arms, eyes watering

Oh I’m going to miss you, you say
we’re both rag tired

from the ambulance call in the night
to fix your breathing
