A shark bit off a navy diver’s hand and leg
In Sydney in the safe haven harbour a few years ago
A friend told me
It happened recently
You can look it up on Google
If you like

A shark took a seal
A tough Navy Seal
He knew Krav Maga/Spetznaz Israeli/Russian Special
 Forces hand-to-hand fighting techniques
He hit the shark hand-to-hand because he only had
 one hand left
On the nose
Hand to nose

But it made no difference
The shark shook him like a baby seal not a Navy Seal
Like a rag doll
Like a wet rag doll
And tore all his muscles out
His military man-made hard-earned Manly suntanned
 New South Wales muscles
Eaten by a protected fish
His limbs became the faeces of an endangered species

Out of the blue
Out of the deep blue
Out of the deep blue yonder

Cancer is the same
Out of the blue
Draws and quarters you
Tears out your muscles
Tears out your bones
Your liver your kidneys your stomach
Tears out your breasts your vagina your anus your balls
Tears out your tears
Clutches at your guts clasps your throat
Gets your sacrificial goat

Drags you down
Disembowels you
Dismembers you
No one even remembers you

Life tears out your youth
Your happiness
Leaving you blue

Feel the shark ripping your muscles away day by day
Out of a clear blue sky
Out of the blue
Out of the deep

Feel the blues sucking away your life blood day by day
Leukaemia turns you blue
Life turns you blue
Feel life sucking away your blood day by day

The Navy Diver says the pain
The loss
The phantom pain from the lost limbs’ ghosts
Never goes away

The big blue

And in the end you have no other choice
But to feel the fear
Day by day
And dive in deep
Anyway
