Ureteric jets, which are seen when urine enters the bladder from the ureter, may be easily identified during ultrasound examinations of the bladder. The movement of fluid associated with the ureteric jet creates a linear and echogenic appearing structure. Most commonly, only one ureteric jet will be observed at any given time, but occasionally, bilateral ureteric jets will be simultaneously observed. The resultant appearance on ultrasound is that of crossed swords or, as a more contemporary description, crossed lightsabres.
