Teed off

A 46-year-old man presented to the ED after waking up to find a plastic golf tee embedded in his right thenar eminence (Figure a). His memory of how it got there was rather foggy.

The tee was removed under nitrous oxide sedation (Figure b, c) and the wound was irrigated. There was no apparent neurovascular or tendon injury. The patient was given oral antibiotics and discharged, for follow-up at the Hand Clinic.
