Sharon completed her undergraduate degree in podiatry, followed by a Master of Public Health and PhD in clinical epidemiology. She has conducted evidence syntheses and contracted research to inform policy and guidelines for global and national organisations such as the WHO, NHMRC and the Heart Foundation, and has evaluated submissions to the PBAC. She has developed and coordinated postgraduate courses in evidence-based practice, research design, sustainable health systems and systematic reviews. Her research has focused on research waste, the methodology of conducting systematic reviews, identifying overdiagnosis and evaluating the impact of changing disease definitions. She joined the MJA as an Associate Editor in January 2026.
