Brian studied clinical health and ageing at Ithaca College in the United States, before moving to Adelaide to undertake both masters and PhD in health and pain science at the University of South Australia (UniSA, now Adelaide University). He has previously worked as a clinical trials coordinator at Boston Children’s Hospital & Harvard Medical School, and as a lecturer at UniSA. Most recently, he undertook a postdoctoral fellowship in epidemiology with the Registry of Senior Australians at the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI), using big data to study health services and healthy ageing. He joined the MJA as Associate Editor in 2026.
