Dr Alison Williams is acting Deputy Medical Editor at the MJA. She obtained a medical degree from the University of Adelaide in 1988 and went on to work as a general practitioner with a special interest in occupational health, vaccination and mental health. She initially joined the MJA in 2000 as Editorial Fellow and has more recently returned to work at the journal in 2024. She has also contributed to major national projects, including the Australian Immunisation Handbook.
Alison seeks to combine a strong evidence-based approach with a patient-centred philosophy of care and continuously aims to balance medicine with her passion for medical communication, education, and advancing equitable health solutions. She is currently based in rural Tasmania (lutriwita) and although recently retired from clinical practice, Alison remains continually inspired by the dedication and resourcefulness of rural doctors and the care they provide to their communities.
