Prof David Ellwood

David Ellwood is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Deputy Dean at the Australian National University Medical School, and a senior subspecialist in maternal‒fetal medicine at The Canberra Hospital. He is the Immediate Past President of the Women’s Hospitals Australasia (WHA), the Past Chair of the Australian and New Zealand Stillbirth Alliance, a member of the board of the International Stillbirth Alliance and a Past President of the Perinatal Society of Australia and New Zealand. He was Editor-in-Chief of the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics from 2006 to 2010. David is also a member of the Society of Obstetric Medicine of Australia and New Zealand Council. He has broad clinical and research interests and is currently a chief investigator on the National Health and Medical Research Council-funded Australasian Maternity Outcomes Surveillance System project, which is looking at rare and serious adverse outcomes of pregnancy. For the past five years, David has been a coauthor of the WHA Benchmarking Maternity Care reports.
