Professor José Florencio Fabella Lapeña, Jr.

Joey is a retired Professor of Otolaryngology of the U.P. College of Medicine, Attending Otolaryngologist, Philippine General Hospital and former Vice Chancellor, University of the Philippines Manila with special interests in paediatric cleft and aero-digestive surgery, medical education, mentoring, writing and peer review. He has degrees in Philosophy and Letters, Social Sciences (Sociology), Medicine and Surgery; post-graduate residency training in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery; and fellowships in Paediatric Otolaryngology, Cleft and Craniofacial Plastic Surgery. He is President of the World Association of Medical Editors, Past President of the Asia-Pacific Association of Medical Journal Editors, and Charter President of the Philippine Association of Medical Journal Editors. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Philippine Journal of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, and - aside from the MJA, is on the Editorial Board/International Advisory Board of seven journals, and reviews for four more. He is married to a family physician, has three daughters, and two grandchildren.
