The MJA offers a number of prizes to encourage excellence in research and excellence in writing.
Worth $10 000, this prestigious prize is awarded annually for the best clinical research article published in the MJA in each calendar year.
This international award is for an essay on a topic of global health importance. Awarded in two categories (medical student and medical practitioner) the prize includes a Public Health Leadership course worth $3000, $1000 for travel expenses, and publication of the award winning essay in the MJA.
Open to Australian medical practitioners and medical students, this prize for an essay will reward the author with a residential writing retreat or writing workshop at Varuna the Writers’ House.
This annual prize, for an essay on Indigenous health by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person, is worth $4000 in each category.
A festive hamper is the prize for the best quirky or humorous item or image published in the MJA’s Christmas issue.
