MJA prizes

The MJA offers a number of prizes to encourage excellence in research and excellence in writing.

1. The MJA, MDA National Prize for Excellence in Medical Research

Worth $10 000, this prestigious prize is awarded annually for the best clinical research article published in the MJA in each calendar year.

2. The MJA, MDA National, Nossal Global Health Prize

This international award is for an essay on a topic of global health importance. Awarded in two categories (medical student and medical practitioner) the prize includes a Public Health Leadership course worth $3000, $1000 for travel expenses, and publication of the award winning essay in the MJA.

3. The MJA Dr Eric Dark Creative Writing Prize

Open to Australian medical practitioners and medical students, this prize for an essay will reward the author with a residential writing retreat or writing workshop at Varuna the Writers’ House.

4. The Dr Ross Ingram Memorial Prize

This annual prize, for an essay or an artwork on Indigenous health by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person, is worth $2000 in each category.

5. The MJA Christmas competition

A festive hamper is the prize for the best quirky or humorous item or image published in the MJA’s Christmas issue.

6. The MJA Writing with Light Competition — digital photography from our subscribers

The MJA invites subscribers to submit their digital images for our photography competition.
