| Cognitive strategies for stress management
| The objective is to help patients recognise their pattern of response to stress. With this insight, patients can develop coping strategies. |
|
Problem-solving |
- Identify the stressors.
- Classify them (is this an important stressor or a minor "hassle"?) and reframe concerns.
- Identify events that are within personal control and acknowledge the existence of stresses that are beyond control.
- Break down high priority stressors into manageable components.
|
|
Positive approaches |
- Encourage the person to challenge their negative thoughts and to consider how they could reframe things to deal with problems positively.
