Warning signs of psychiatric disturbance in the elderly
  • Self-neglect
  • Sudden onset or escalation in confusion
  • Any self-harming behaviour
  • Persistent somatic complaints without organic basis
  • Persistent requests for hypnotic medication
  • Exhaustion of carers
  • Repeated complaints by neighbours or the police
