2: Multiple-author addresses -- assignment of publication location

  • Both hospital and university address noted -- publication assigned to "both" the hospital and the university.
  • Both hospital and affiliated research institute noted in address -- publication assigned to "both" the hospital and the affiliated research institute. To avoid double-counting during data analysis, the publication may count only once (ie, it is differentially assigned to one or other site appropriate to the particular comparisons being undertaken). For example, (i) cumulative hospital plus institute data, publication assigned to institute; (ii) hospital data and institute data shown separately, publication assigned to both institute and hospital.
  • Two or more hospitals noted in address -- publication assigned to "both" hospitals. Although this occasionally led to double-counting in the data analysis, this occurred in very few instances (<1% publications), and is not expected to unduly or differentially advantage or disadvantage any institution.
