2: Physical consequences of starvation or purging

Patients with well-established anorexia nervosa will demonstrate various physiological changes associated with starvation:

• emaciation
• hair thinning
• fine downy lanugo hair on the back, arms and side of face
• dry skin
• cold hands and feet
• dependent oedema
• hypotension
• bradycardia
