1: Definitions

            

Current wheeze: History of wheeze or whistling in the chest over the past 12 months. (This definition has sensitivity of 0.85 and specificity of 0.81 compared with respiratory physician assessment.6 )

Severe episode: Episode in which speech was limited to one or two words at a time between breaths.

Current eczema: History of an itchy rash coming and going over the past 12 months and affecting flexural areas. (This definition has sensitivity of 0.8 and specificity of 0.97 compared with standardised dermatologist assessment.7 )

Severe eczema: Eczema in the past 12 months that kept the child awake an average of one or more nights per week.

Current allergic rhinitis: Problem with sneezing or a runny or blocked nose, not associated with a cold or flu, that was accompanied by itchy watery eyes in the past 12 months.8

Troublesome allergic rhinitis: That which interfered with daily activities.
