Results of respiratory function tests relative to passive smoking exposure for our cohort of very low birthweight children at 11 years of age. Quadratic relationships (95% confidence interval) are shown where statistically significant.
(a) Flow rates at 75% of vital capacity/vital capacity (VEmax75%/VC) and 50% of VC/VC (VEmax50%/VC), and forced expiratory flow between 25% and 75% of VC/VC (FEF25%-75%/VC).
(b) Forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), forced vital capacity (FVC), and FEV1/FVC ratio.
(c) Residual volume (RV), total lung capacity (TLC), and RV/TLC ratio, and passive smoking exposure.
