Below is the original text of one paragraph of the article, as published on 1 April 2002:

Tropical Australia: Patients in tropical Australia, particularly those with more severe pneumonia, may be infected with B. pseudomallei) (melioidosis) or A. baumannii and thus may require different initial empirical therapy. Severe CAP in this region should be treated initially with gentamicin plus either ticarcillin-clavulanate or ceftriaxone. The regimen must be further refined if one of these pathogens is identified.24
